The royal brothers’ relationship has reportedly become strained in recent years as they head down different routes in life. Harry even admitted during a trip to South Africa last year that they were “on different paths at the moment”. This was shortly before the Duke of Sussex made the bombshell announcement he was stepping down from his role as a senior member of the Royal Family with wife Meghan Markle.
The Telegraph’s Associate Editor Camilla Tominey claimed William may have been “impacted personally” by Harry’s new life away from the Royal Family, as it means the future King’s younger brother can no longer help with duties.
She said: “There has been no doubt Prince Harry’s absence has impacted William personally, when you consider historically how close they were.
“Equally it puts more pressure on the Cambridges, this idea that they were sharing this middle ground of being very senior royals but not quite on the throne with Harry and Meghan.
“Now they’re there by themselves and that means they’ve got bigger void to fill, it means they have got to step up to their responsibilities. That’s difficult, isn’t it?”
William has appeared to have already started stepping up his duties while preparing to become King.
He recently opened up about his concerns for the future of the planet, which echoed his father Charles’ own sentiments on climate change.
Speaking in the ITV documentary, Prince William: A Planet For Us All, he said: “‘My grandfather, my father, have been in environmental work for many years.
“My grandfather’s well ahead of his time. My father, ahead of his time.
“And I really want to make sure that, in 20 years, George doesn’t turn round and say, ‘are you ahead of your time?’ Because if he does, we’re too late.”
Kate and William have also started to involve their three children – including future king George – in their public duties.
Last month, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis all spoke to David Attenborough.
They were seen in a video posted online by Kensington Palace for the documentary, A Life On Our Planet.

However, Harry has been noticeably absent from royal engagements this year as he prepares for a new role of his own after recently signing a multi-million Netflix deal.
The Queen, Prince Charles, Camilla Parker-Bowles, Prince William and Kate were all pictured attending the annual Service of Remembrance at the Cenotaph this weekend.
But Harry was instead photographed with Meghan laying flowers for fallen soldiers at the Los Angeles National Cemetery.
His request to lay a wreath on his behalf at the Royal Family’s Remembrance service was also reportedly turned down.
During the ITV documentary, Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, Harry admitted he sometimes has “bad days” with William.
He said: “Part of this role and part of this job and this family being under the pressure that it’s under … stuff happens. But, look, we’re brothers, we’ll always be brothers.
“We’re certainly on different paths at the moment. But I’ll always be there for him and, as I know, he’ll always be there for me.
“We don’t see each other as much as we used to because we’re so busy, but I love him dearly.
“The majority of stuff is created out of nothing. As brothers, we have good days and we have bad days.”
